How To Make A Headpiece Circlet

A headpiece circlet is a wreath-like headpiece in the shape of a circle. It can be used in-place of a veil, and can be worn by all members of the bridal party, right down to the flower girls. Although they look great (as you can see in the photo below), they are actually quite easy to make.

What you need

Step 1: Take your form wire and bend it into a circle shape. Using some ones head as a guide is a good idea.Place it on the head so it sits at forehead level then bring the ends together at the back of the head as shown.

Step 2: Tape the ends together so that the wire holds it's circle shape.

Step 3: Wire and tape all the flowers and leaves (as shown in How to tape a silk flower and How to wire a silk flower)

Step 4: Take your circlet form and lay the flowers out in the order you want them. A good rule of thumb is to start with with the bigger flowers at the back of the circlet as this will help hide the join. Put the leaves to one side we will get to them later. (As you can see I have two white flowers near each other. Do not worry about this as it will all become clear later...)

Step 5: Trim the flowers about a quarter of the way down the stem.

Do this for all the flowers and the leaves.

Step 6: Now attach the first flower as per the layout in step four. Tape each flower into position alternating colours as you go. You will find it easier to tape the flowers if you break the stem tape off into smaller pieces.

Step 7: Do not put a red flower inbetween the two white flowers at the back of the headpiece. We will be putting something else there later. Now that the flowers are attached you should have something that looks like this...

Step 8: Now we do the same thing with the leaves. Remember not to put anything near the back join! Line the first leave up with a red rose like so:

To help when taping quite closely to another flower you can move the head slightly to get more room...

Step 9: If you have any left over leaves then tape them on the inside near a white rose. In this case I had three leaves left over so I taped them like this...

When taping these leaves you may have to go over the top of previous taping...

Okay, when you are done, it should look something like this...

So now all we need to do is add the finishing touches. We wrap the head pice in thick white ribbon. This covers the stem tape and helps to give the circlet a softer look...

Step 10:: Start at the back of the headpiece. Place the ribbon over the wire so that you have a piece of ribbon on either side.

Make sure one end is longer than the other:

Tie the ribbon on leaving enough length so you can make a bow you get back around. This will also form part of the trail ribbons so it needs to be quite long.

Then we start to wrap the ribbon around the form.Once you are back at the back of the circlet tie a bow. Be sure to leave some ribbon dangling...

Step 14:To finish tie the thin red ribbon in a bow over the top of the white ribbon. Leave some of the red ribbon to create more trailers. If you want extra trailers just tie more ribbon onto the back of the headpiece.

The End Result...

Congratulations! You have finished making your headpiece circlet. With any luck, it looks something like this...
